چکیده

IT IS well known that geographic differences exist between populations in the mortality caused by coronary heart disease (C.H.D.). These differences are not entirely explained by the known risk factors of C.H.D. and attention has been drawn to the possibility that the quality of drinking water affects the death rates from C.H.D. [l-14]. There is no general agreement, however, on the identity or even on the existence of a water factor [15-21-J. Finland has an especially high rate of death from C.H.D. [22]. Within Finland there is a marked difference in the mortality from C.H.D. between the southwestern and the eastern parts of the country, the mortality being much higher in eastern Finland [23-25-j. A cohort study on C.H.D. has been conducted since 1959 on two rural male populations, one from the eastern part, the other from the western part of the country [26-291. In 10 yr, the eastern cohort had experienced a rate of death from C.H.D. more than twice as high as the western cohort [30]. Among the eastern men, C.H.D. runs a short course and has a poor prognosis, and this, in fact, seems to be a major characteristic of the epidemic of C.H.D. in the eastern cohort [30-321. The currently known risk factors do not seem to adequately explain the high mortality from C.H.D.

Iron levels in coronary heart disease patients without known risk factors

Background: Coronary heart disease is a common disease after adolescence. Strong epidemiological evidence is available that iron is an important factor in coronary artery disease. Therefore this study was done to assess the relationship between iron stores and coronary artery disease. Materials and methods: 208 subjects with cardiovascular disease were included in the study. Personal informati...

THE ROLE OF BEHAVIOR PATTERN AND EMOTIONAL RISK FACTORS IN CORONARY HEART DISEASE

For evaluating the role of behavior pattern and emotional factors in coronary heart disease (CHD), 86 patients were followed for one to three years (average 20 months). The behavior pattern itself was not considered as a main risk factor, rather it was found to be an aggravating and predisposing factor, especially in morbidity rate. Both behavior patterns were more common in males than in ...

Serum lipoprotein (a) as an atherosclerosis risk factor in men with androgenic alopecia

Background: The association between coronary artery disease and androgenic alopecia has been demonstrated, but few studies have focused on the mechanism of this association. The aim of this study was to evaluate the lipid profile in male pattern alopecia. Methods: In this case control study, 45 male patients with androgenic alopecia who were aged from 20 to 50 years and 45 men with a norma...

Evaluation of Apolipoprotein A5 Polymorphism in Coronary- Heart Disease Patients

Background and Objectives: Apolipoprotein A5 (APOA5) gene is important in determining plasma triglyceride levels, a major cardiovascular disease risk factor. Mutation in this gene affected plasma triglyceride level. We looked for possible associations of the APOA5 gene polymorphism S19W with coronary heart disease (CHD) in a sample of Iranian population. Materials and Methods: A total of 7...

Antihyperlipidaemic and antihypercholesterolaemic effects of Dorema aucheri

Elevated serum cholesterol and triglyceride is well established as a risk factor development of arteriosclerosis and coronary heart disease. A number of clinical studies have shown that reducing elevated levels of serum cholesterol and triglyceride, by drugs or dietary intervention, could lead to reduction in the incidence of coronary-related deaths. The search for new drug with the potential t...
